Rama Memorial Scholarship Fund 

The Rama family established the Rama Memorial Scholarship Fund in 2006 to promote opportunities for higher education for the children of Greenville City Fire Department personnel by awarding grants for tuition and required fees.

Criteria

  • Applicant must be the child of a full-time (active, retired, permanently disabled, or deceased) employee with two or more years of service
  • Applicant must be seeking a bachelor's or associate's degree from an accredited institution on a full-time basis
  • Applicant must have a minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Applicant must have received college acceptance prior to applying
  • Applicant must NOT be receiving a full scholarship that covers all institutional expenses

Guidelines

  • Applicants will be considered regardless of race, sex, religion, or national origin
  • A Scholarship Advisory Committee (approved by the Community Foundation of Greenville's board of directors on an annual basis) will review applications and make recommendations on an objective and non-discriminatory basis
  • Applications will be judged on completeness, community involvement, citizenship, academic achievement, leadership, and financial need
  • To ensure that a fair, equitable, objective, and non-discriminatory selection process is used, all applicants are required to adhere to the same guidelines and submit the required application form and attachments

Award Amount

  • Award amount and number of awards are determined annually based on the
    Community Foundation of Greenville's spending policy for endowment funds
  • Scholarship funds are paid to the approved educational institution in the name of the recipient
  • Scholarship funds are awarded for one academic year and are not subject to
    automatic renewal
  • Prior recipients may apply for subsequent awards not to exceed four academic years

Deadline

  • Application deadline is May 27, 2022 and award recipients are notified in July
  • Application must be submitted online (incomplete applications will not be considered)
  • The following supplemental materials are required:
    • Personal narrative
    • One letter of recommendation
    • Official transcript
    • SAT/ACT scores
